  • The UN General Assembly gave its overwhelming approval to a Palestinian resolution which permits the flag of Palestine to fly at the UN Headquarters in New York. There were 119 votes in favour out of 193 UN members while the United States and Israel were among eight countries that voted against the Palestinian-drafted resolution. Palestine described this as a major step toward full UN membership.
  • 12th World Hindi Conference, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 September 2015. The conference primarily focuses on exploring the possibilities of expanding the influence of Hindi across the world. The main feature of this conference is that with it the WHC has returned to India after an interval of 32 years.Bhopal(M.P) hosted this event.
  • Union Cabinet approved the constitution of 21st edition of Law Commission. The Law Commission is a non-statutory body constituted by the government from time to time primarily for reviewing the effectiveness and relevance of present laws. It was originally constituted in 1955 and is re-constituted every three years.
  • Virat Kohli became a co-owner of UAE Royals, which is one of the five franchisee teams of the Mahesh Bhupathi promoted Indian Premier Tennis League( IPTL).
  • People's Action Party (PAP) won Singapore general election.PAP was led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the election.
  • US open winners: women’s singles-Flavia Pennetta(Italy) defeated Roberta Vinci(Italy),thus became the oldest first-time Grand Slam women’s champion in the Open era.In mixed doubles Leander Paes (India) and Martina Hingis (Switzerland) defeated American duo Sam Querrey and Bethanie Mattek.Mens singles- Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland. Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis won Women's Doubles title.
  • World welterweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather  Jr. (US) ended his illustrious boxing career on 12 September 2015 with a win over Andre Berto to claim the 49th and final win of his career. He thus ended 49-0 to match the record of heavyweight boxing legend Rocky Marciano.
  • Malcolm Turnbull, a former Liberal Party leader and Communications Minister, became Australia’s fourth Prime Minister in just over two years after Tony Abbott lost a leadership ballot by members of his party. 
  • AUSINDEX-15 is the name given to the first bilateral naval exercise between India and Australia being conducted off the east coast of India from 12 September to 19 September 2015. 
  • The 6th Indo-Maldives joint Military Training Exercise, which concluded on 13 September 2015, was held at Thiruvananthapuram.
  • India Rapid Reaction Cell (IRRC) – the first-ever country special cell at Pentagon was established to speed up United States’ defence ties with India and accelerate the process of co-development and co-production of hi-tech military equipment in the country.
  • The registration certificate of Sahara India Financial Corporation Limited (SIFCL) to act as a non-banking financial company (NBFC) was cancelled effective 3 September 2015 under the RBI Act.
  • The World Bank on 14 September 2015 released the first ever ranking of States on the “Ease of Doing Business” in India. The rating assessed states over a six-month period from January to June 2015 on the issue of implementation of “ease of doing business” policy. Gujarat topped the list. Followed by Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
  • Tamil Nadu state govt. on 16 September 2015 announced making it mandatory for all high rise buildings in the state to have solar power generation facility.
  • “Shauryanjali”- name of the exhibition that was started on 15 September 2015 at the India Gate lawns in New Delhi to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Indo-Pak War of 1965. “Shauryanjali” has recreated the battle scene in various sectors beginning from Rann of Kutch to the ceasefire and Tashkent Summit.
  • Indian author Sunjeev Sahota is among the six writers short-listed for the prestigious Man Booker Prize 2015. Sunjeev Sahota was short-listed for his book “The Year of the Runaways”, which centers around the lives of three Indian men, one a Dalit and a woman, all migrants from India.
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 16 September 2015 accorded “in-principal” approval for 10 small finance banks. 1) Au Financiers, 2) Capital Local Area Bank, 3) Disha Microfin, 4) Equitas Holdings, 5) ESAF Microfinance, 6) Janalakshmi Financial Services, 7) RGVN (North East) Microfinance, 8) Suryoday Micro Finance, 9) Ujjivan Financial Services and 10) Utkarsh Micro Finance.
  • Nepal’s parliament approved country‟s new constitution on 16 September 2015.
  • Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang Province is chosen for hosting 2022 Asian Games.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ambitious Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) on the occasion of his visit to Varanasi. Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) is one of the flagship schemes of the Ministry of Power and will be at the core attempt to ensure 24×7 power for all.
  • Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY)-New scheme for welfare of people affected by mining related operations.
  • India ranked at 81st place out of 141 countries in Global Innovation Index (GII) 2015. Globally, Switzerland, followed by the United Kingdom, Sweden, Netherlands and the US are ranked as the most innovative countries in the world.
  • Godavari, Krishna Rivers formally linked at Ibrahimpatnam Ferry village in Andhra Pradesh.The two rivers were linked under the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme on Godavari River at Pattisam village in West Godavari district.
  • Two Years Eight Months and Twenty Eight Nights written by Salman Rushdie released. The book can be easily called as an update to Rushdie’s ancient eastern classic, A Thousand and One Nights and the story revolves around the great Spanish-Muslim philosopher Ibn Rushd.
  • India, US created Joint Challenge Coin to mark partnership.One side of the coin reads Forward Together We Go and Chale Chale Saath Saath in Hindi, which is the vision statement of US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Hungary declared emergency in areas near Serbian border to check Migrant crisis. The declaration of emergency is part of the refugee crisis which the European Union (EU) nations has been facing from Africa especially Syria.
  • Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina won the United Nations Champions of the Earth Award 2015.Sheikh Hasina has demonstrated leadership in making climate change an issue of national priority and advocating for an ambitious global response.
  • Union Cabinet approved Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission for overall development of rural areas.The Mission approved with an outlay of 5142.08 crore rupees aims to create 300 Rurban growth clusters over the next 3 years, across the country.
  • 16 September 2015:21st International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer observed across the world.The theme and the slogan for the year 2015 are 30 Years of Healing the Ozone Together and Ozone: All there is between you and UV respectively.
  • 15th September:International Day of Democracy observed with the theme Space for Civil Society.It was created by the UN General Assembly through a resolution in 2007 to strengthen national programmes devoted to the promotion and consolidation of democracy.
  • U.N general assembly UNGA adopted Document on Advancing Security Council Reforms.The proposal which was adopted for the first time in 23 years has been welcomed by India and G4 group comprising of Brazil, Germany, Japan and India and L.69 Group of Developing Countries.
  • Government to provide additional 50 days work to farmers under MGNREGA in drought-hit areas.The additional days will be provided to bring relief to farmers in view of deficit monsoon in various parts of the country.
  • DMRC to execute 6769 crore rupees worth Vijayawada Metro Rail Project.
  • The state government also gave in principal approval to the DMRC for the execution of the Vishakhapatnam Metro Rail Project.
  • Indian Railways partnered with Google to provide free Wi-Fi services under Project Nilgiri.Under this initiative, free Wi-Fi services will be provided to passengers in 400 railway stations across the country.
  • Union Government approved the purchase of 10 Heron TP drones from Israel.This 400 million US dollars proposal for buying armed missile-armed drones from Israel will enhance India's cross-border military strike capability.
  • Rakesh Sharma appointed as MD and CEO of Canara Bank.Prior to this appointment, Sharma was the MD and CEO of Lakshmi Vilas Bank since March 2014.
  • Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on 10 September 2015 launched the National Web Portal for promotion of National Apprenticeship Scheme for Graduates, Diploma holders and 10+2 pass-outs vocational certificate holders. The Union Ministry also released a Logo and a Slogan Sashakt Yuva, Samarth Bharat for the National Web Portal. 
  • Mumbai Dialogue: Towards a TB-free India launched.According to the World Health Organization Global TB Report 2014, 240000 Indians die of TB each year and 61000 suffer from multidrug-resistant TB.

  • From 22 September Haryana’s Gurgaon city will observe car-free day every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to encourage people to use alternative modes of transport. The idea is to give an experience of car-free streets to the people and persuade them to use sustainable modes of transport.
  • Jagmohan Dalmiya, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata on 20 September 2015. He is known as the person who understood the potential of India becoming commercially a global powerhouse of cricket.
  • The draft of the New Encryption Policy was issued by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology recently. This policy pertains to messaging services like WhatsApp, Viber, Line, Google Chat, Yahoo messenger etc. One important proposal in the draft was – “All messages must be mandatorily stored for 90 days',later withdrew this proposal due to strong opposition from the public.
  • Greek voters returned Alexis Tsipras to power with a comfortable win for his Syriza party in the snap election held on 20 September 2015. The snap election was called after Syriza lost its majority in August 2015 as some of his MP‟s defected in protest at the signing of an unpopular new financial bailout deal with international creditors.
  • A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on 21 September 2015 managed to successfully evacuate two labourers from a tunnel in Himachal Pradesh in which they were trapped for last 9 days. This tunnel situated in Bilaspur is part of Kiratpur-Manali expressway road project .
  • Indian Coast Guard commissioned indigenously built vessels Apoorva & C-421.The induction of the vessels is expected to boost maritime security along the Arabian Sea coast.
  • Google, Tata Trusts announced the launch of Android Developer Nanodegrees programme.As a part of the Udacity Android Nanodegree program, 1000 scholarships will be offered to deserving students by Google and Tata Trusts.
  • Infosys was awarded the contract for building the interface for implementing the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) .
  • The Union Cabinet cleared the purchase of two helicopter ( Apache and Chinook) from Boeing Co. of the United States.
  • German based Volkswagen AG (VW) came under controversy after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) disclosed that the company used software that deceived regulators measuring toxic emissions. US authorities announced further probe in the matter and VW could face penalties of up to $18 billion. Volkswagen AG (VW) is the largest auto company in the world with some leading brands such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Volkswagen, Skoda and SEAT under its belt.
  • Microsoft Corp. began the worldwide release of the new Office suite “Office 2016” .
  • Game of Thrones won 12 awards at 67th Primetime Emmy Awards.Famous American fantasy drama television series, Game of Thrones, won an unprecedented 12 awards at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards.
  • Rajasthan passed first-of-its-kind of legislative bill that provides 14% reservation for economically backward classes (EBCs). According to this bill, criterion for reservation in the EBC category will be purely economic and not caste-based.
  • (SEBI) imposed the biggest-ever fine of Rs. 7,269.5 crore on construction and real entity PACL for illegal and fraudulent mobilisation of funds from the public.
  • The 8th edition of the Rugby World Cup is being held in England.
  • 24th Vyaas Samman conferred on eminent Hindi writer Dr Kamal Kishore Goenka.Goenka was awarded for his work 'Premchand ki Kahaniyon ka Kaal Kramanusaar Adhyayan', a critical analysis of the work by Hindi literature's towering giant Munshi Premchand.
  • ADB lowered India’s Growth Forecast for 2016 from 7.8% to 7.4%
  • Richie Richardson appointed to Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.Javagal Srinath is the only Indian in the seven member elite panel of the ICC.
  • Metroman E Sreedharan to join UN's High Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport
  • Ajay Jayaram won Silver Medal in 2015 Korea Open Badminton tournament.Jayram is currently ranked 32 in the Men's Singles world ranking.
  • Instagram photo-sharing website recently surpassed micro-blogging site Twitter in terms of users. Instagram now has over 400 million active users.
  • In the worst Hajj tragedies in recent years, more than 700 persons were killed and hundreds other were injured in a stampede outside the holy city of Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia on 24 September 2015. This stampede took place at Mina near Mecca.
  • Chaitanya Tamhane's critically acclaimed Marathi film “Court” was selected as India’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language category of the Oscars 2016.
  • Telecom operator Uninor on 23 September 2015 changed its name to Telenor, the name of its Norway-based parent company.
  • The Union Cabinet on 23 September 2015 cleared the proposal for a nearly Rs. 8,000-crore project for IAF‟s Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS). It will help in integrating all ground and air sensors to get a composite air situation picture of the country.
  • Facebook changed name of its free internet platform”internet.org” to “Free Basics by Facebook” .
  • Sourav Ganguly will succeed late Jagmohan Dalmiya as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as announced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
  • National Tourism Awards 2013-14 presented.The state of Gujarat was awarded for the Best State/UT for Comprehensive Tourism Development.
  • The Group of Four (G4) Summit took place on 26 September 2015 after almost a decade. G4 was formed with the objective of supporting each other‟s bids for permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Japan, Germany, India and Brazil are the member countries.
  • The “Digital India” dinner in the honour of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was hosted at San Jose city Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the world‟s top tech chiefs, including Adobe‟s Shantanu Narayen, Qualcomm‟s Paul Jacobs, Cisco‟s John Chambers, Microsoft‟s Satya Nadella and Google‟s Sundar Pichai on the occasion of the “Digital India” dinner.
  • Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s year-long Birth Centenary Celebrations were initiated by the Union Govt. from 25 September 2015 on the occasion of his 99th Birth Anniversary.
  • Pankaj Advani won the IBSF World Billiards Championship in Adelaide (Australia) on 27 September 2015 to take his world title count to 14.
  • Dr. Syed Ahmad, passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on 27 September 2015 . 75-year old Dr. Syed Ahmad was the 16th Governor of Manipur.
  • Cow declared as National Animal of Nepal.The declaration was made under the new secular constitution of Nepal unveiled by Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav at Kathmandu.

As a result, the reverse repo rate, the rate at which RBI borrows from commercial banks, stands adjusted to 5.75 percent, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 7.75 per cent. However, the cash reserve ratio (CRR) of scheduled banks was kept unchanged at 4 percent of net demand and time liabilities (NDTL).
  • Maharashtra Government declared 2017 as Visit Maharashtra Year.The government also launched international tourism promotion project Maharashtra International Travel Mart 2015 (MITM).
  • Strong Evidence of Liquid Water on Mars: NASA.The researchers detected signatures of hydrated minerals on slopes where mysterious streaks are seen on the Red Planet using an imaging spectrometer on MRO.
