• From 22 September Haryana’s Gurgaon city will observe car-free day every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to encourage people to use alternative modes of transport. The idea is to give an experience of car-free streets to the people and persuade them to use sustainable modes of transport.
• Jagmohan Dalmiya, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata on 20 September 2015. He is known as the person who understood the potential of India becoming commercially a global powerhouse of cricket.
• The draft of the New Encryption Policy was issued by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology recently. This policy pertains to messaging services like WhatsApp, Viber, Line, Google Chat, Yahoo messenger etc. One important proposal in the draft was – “All messages must be mandatorily stored for 90 days',later withdrew this proposal due to strong opposition from the public.
• Greek voters returned Alexis Tsipras to power with a comfortable win for his Syriza party in the snap election held on 20 September 2015. The snap election was called after Syriza lost its majority in August 2015 as some of his MP‟s defected in protest at the signing of an unpopular new financial bailout deal with international creditors.
• A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on 21 September 2015 managed to successfully evacuate two labourers from a tunnel in Himachal Pradesh in which they were trapped for last 9 days. This tunnel situated in Bilaspur is part of Kiratpur-Manali expressway road project .
• Indian Coast Guard commissioned indigenously built vessels Apoorva & C-421.The induction of the vessels is expected to boost maritime security along the Arabian Sea coast.
• Google, Tata Trusts announced the launch of Android Developer Nanodegrees programme.As a part of the Udacity Android Nanodegree program, 1000 scholarships will be offered to deserving students by Google and Tata Trusts.
• Infosys was awarded the contract for building the interface for implementing the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) .
• The Union Cabinet cleared the purchase of two helicopter ( Apache and Chinook) from Boeing Co. of the United States.
• German based Volkswagen AG (VW) came under controversy after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) disclosed that the company used software that deceived regulators measuring toxic emissions. US authorities announced further probe in the matter and VW could face penalties of up to $18 billion. Volkswagen AG (VW) is the largest auto company in the world with some leading brands such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Volkswagen, Skoda and SEAT under its belt.
• Microsoft Corp. began the worldwide release of the new Office suite “Office 2016” .
• Game of Thrones won 12 awards at 67th Primetime Emmy Awards.Famous American fantasy drama television series, Game of Thrones, won an unprecedented 12 awards at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards.
• Rajasthan passed first-of-its-kind of legislative bill that provides 14% reservation for economically backward classes (EBCs). According to this bill, criterion for reservation in the EBC category will be purely economic and not caste-based.
• (SEBI) imposed the biggest-ever fine of Rs. 7,269.5 crore on construction and real entity PACL for illegal and fraudulent mobilisation of funds from the public.
• The 8th edition of the Rugby World Cup is being held in England.
• 24th Vyaas Samman conferred on eminent Hindi writer Dr Kamal Kishore Goenka.Goenka was awarded for his work 'Premchand ki Kahaniyon ka Kaal Kramanusaar Adhyayan', a critical analysis of the work by Hindi literature's towering giant Munshi Premchand.
• ADB lowered India’s Growth Forecast for 2016 from 7.8% to 7.4%
• Richie Richardson appointed to Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.Javagal Srinath is the only Indian in the seven member elite panel of the ICC.
• Metroman E Sreedharan to join UN's High Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport
• Ajay Jayaram won Silver Medal in 2015 Korea Open Badminton tournament.Jayram is currently ranked 32 in the Men's Singles world ranking.
• Instagram photo-sharing website recently surpassed micro-blogging site Twitter in terms of users. Instagram now has over 400 million active users.
• In the worst Hajj tragedies in recent years, more than 700 persons were killed and hundreds other were injured in a stampede outside the holy city of Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia on 24 September 2015. This stampede took place at Mina near Mecca.
• Chaitanya Tamhane's critically acclaimed Marathi film “Court” was selected as India’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language category of the Oscars 2016.
• Telecom operator Uninor on 23 September 2015 changed its name to Telenor, the name of its Norway-based parent company.
• The Union Cabinet on 23 September 2015 cleared the proposal for a nearly Rs. 8,000-crore project for IAF‟s Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS). It will help in integrating all ground and air sensors to get a composite air situation picture of the country.
• Facebook changed name of its free internet platform”internet.org” to “Free Basics by Facebook” .
• Sourav Ganguly will succeed late Jagmohan Dalmiya as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as announced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
• National Tourism Awards 2013-14 presented.The state of Gujarat was awarded for the Best State/UT for Comprehensive Tourism Development.
• The Group of Four (G4) Summit took place on 26 September 2015 after almost a decade. G4 was formed with the objective of supporting each other‟s bids for permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Japan, Germany, India and Brazil are the member countries.
• The “Digital India” dinner in the honour of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was hosted at San Jose city Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the world‟s top tech chiefs, including Adobe‟s Shantanu Narayen, Qualcomm‟s Paul Jacobs, Cisco‟s John Chambers, Microsoft‟s Satya Nadella and Google‟s Sundar Pichai on the occasion of the “Digital India” dinner.
• Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s year-long Birth Centenary Celebrations were initiated by the Union Govt. from 25 September 2015 on the occasion of his 99th Birth Anniversary.
• Pankaj Advani won the IBSF World Billiards Championship in Adelaide (Australia) on 27 September 2015 to take his world title count to 14.
• Dr. Syed Ahmad, passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on 27 September 2015 . 75-year old Dr. Syed Ahmad was the 16th Governor of Manipur.
• Cow declared as National Animal of Nepal.The declaration was made under the new secular constitution of Nepal unveiled by Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav at Kathmandu.

• Fourth Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement 2015-16 announced; Repo rate cut by 0.50 percent.New repo rate 6.75%. As a result, the reverse repo rate, the rate at which RBI borrows from commercial banks, stands adjusted to 5.75 percent, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 7.75 per cent. However, the cash reserve ratio (CRR) of scheduled banks was kept unchanged at 4 percent of net demand and time liabilities (NDTL).
• Maharashtra Government declared 2017 as Visit Maharashtra Year.The government also launched international tourism promotion project Maharashtra International Travel Mart 2015 (MITM).
• Strong Evidence of Liquid Water on Mars: NASA.The researchers detected signatures of hydrated minerals on slopes where mysterious streaks are seen on the Red Planet using an imaging spectrometer on MRO.

• Palmyra's Temple of Bel destroyed by ISIS militants: UN.The Temple of Bel’s construction started in 32 BC and ended in the second century AD. Later, it served as both, Church and Mosque.
• India won three-match test series against Sri Lanka.The second match will be remembered for being the last Test of Kumara Sangakkara.

• India won UNESCO's Award of Excellence 2015 for conserving Sree Vadakkunnathan Temple.The Award of Excellence for the conservation of Sree Vadakkunnathan Temple at Thrissur in Kerala recognizes the remarkable conservation effort undertaken at the sacred site.
• Kenya  created history by topping the medals tally at the 15^th World Championships of Athletics that concluded on 30 August 2015 at Beijing. Jamaica and United States finished at 2^nd and 3^rd positions respectively.
• Commemorative coins of Rs 125, Rs 10 released in honour of former President S Radhakrishnan.
• The book named "To the Brink and Back: India's 1991 Story" by Jairam Ramesh released.The book deals with fast-paced changes in the economic sector introduced by the duo P V Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh in 1991.
• On 5th september teacher’s Day celebrated across India on birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan.
• The Reserve Bank of India on 31 August 2015 declared SBI and ICICI Bank as Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs), which literally means that these banks are so integral to the national economy that their failure would have to be prevented at any cost.
• Global ratings agency Fitch, downgraded Punjab National Bank (PNB)’s Viability Rating by one notch to “bb” on account of the growing risk to the bank’s capital position from mounting stock of stressed assets.
• Union Govt. designated Revenue Secretary Ratan Watal as the new Finance Secretary.
• On september 8 International Literacy Day celebrated across the world.
• Golfer Anirban Lahiri became first Indian golfer to qualify for Presidents Cup.The championship is scheduled to be held at Incheon in South Korea between 2 October and 4 October 2015.
• Raghav Chandra took over as the new Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
• The Reserve Bank of India on 1 September 2015 issued draft guidelines pertaining to interest rates and base rates. It has prescribed a uniform method by which banks have to arrive at the interest rates for providing loans.
• A huge one-day “Bharat Bandh” strike was observed by almost all the 10 major trade unions against the proposed amendments to various labour legislations and the to protest the alleged “anti-labour” policies of the Narendra Modi government.
• Ministry of Urban Development has come out with a smart National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) model which will be inter-operable across different transport systems in the country. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is given the task of establishing a robust payment system for this proposed card initiative.
• Google Inc. unveiled a redesign of its iconic logo on 1 September 2015
• The West-Central Railway (WCR) Zone, with its headquarters at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, became the first-ever zone of the Indian Railway to have eliminated all unmanned level crossings.
• South Africa’s Durban city was confirmed as the host of the Commonwealth Games 2022.Durban became the first-ever city from Africa to get the hosting rights of the Commonwealth Games.
• Forward Markets Commission (FMC) and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) decided to merge.
• The Union Govt. on 5 September 2015 announced the acceptance of the long-standing demand of "one rank, one pension‟ (OROP). OROP would be implemented with effect from 1 July 2014, and would cost the government Rs 18,000-22,000 crore this year.
• A committee  set up by the government headed by Sumit Bose, former Finance Secretary  to rationalise distribution incentives for financial products and curb their mis-selling, has in its report recommended flexible exits for financial products and that profits from exit charges not accrue to product providers.
• The MHA cancelled the registration of Greenpeace India under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). This meant that the NGO, part of an international network by the same name, would not be able to receive any kind of foreign donations from now on.
• Noted music director Aadesh Shrivastava passed away . Over the course of his career, he had composed music for over 100 Hindi films, including “Chalte Chalte”,”Baabul”,‟Baghban”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” and “Rajneeti”.
• The meeting of the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from the Group of 20 (G20) was held at Ankara (Turkey). The meeting was attended by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and RBI Governor Raghram Rajan. G20 is the group of the largest developing economies of the world. G20 launched a new group “W20” with the objective to empower women and to boost the role of women in global economic growth.
• Indian Railways is poised to enter into an agreement with ISRO to facilitate getting images for mapping and communications to introduce Wi-Fi through the satellite system.
• The Haryana State Assembly on 7 September 2015 passed a bill – the Haryana Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2015, for fixing the minimum educational qualification for elections to the Panchayati Raj institutions. Haryana became the second in the country after Rajasthan to fix the minimum educational qualification for elections to the Panchayati Raj institutions.
• Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) will sell the iconic bread and bakery brand “Modern”  to Nimman Foods Private Ltd.
• Andhra Pradesh Govt. on 9 September 2015 created history by taking the first step to link two mighty rivers of the state. This was done by diverting the water of Godavari river from Tadepudi reservoir to facilitate supply to Krishna river.
• J. Manjula, the woman scientist of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) became the first-ever woman Director General of DRDO.
• Haryana announced imposition of a complete ban on manufacture and sale of gutka, pan masala, and other similar products containing tobacco.
• Union Cabinet on 9 September 2015 announced the Gold Monetisation Scheme under which gold in any form can be deposited with banks for a period of 1 to 15 years.Objective of this scheme is to bring out the huge amount of gold that is being kept idly by Indians.
• Union Cabinet gave its approval to the spectrum trading guidelines which will allow telecom companies to buy and sell spectrum.
• Union Cabinet announced which new policy for white label ATM operations in the country It allowed 100% FDI under the automatic route for white label ATM operations. White labeled ATMs are set up by private non-bank companies that own and operate their own brand of ATMs.
• Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was presented the Gandhi International Peace Prize for the year 2014 by the President
• Global rating agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) downgraded Brazil’s credit rating to junk grade on 9 September 2015. Brazil is the largest economy of Latin America. S&P said its decision was based on the mounting political problems that have muddled economic policy.
• Arun Jaitley launched digital version of Mahatma Gandhi's collected work.The works of Mahatma Gandhi compiled by a team of Scholars includes historic speeches of Gandhi and also provide varied, numerous and logical profiles of Gandhi’s life and thought, action and engagements.

• Beijing was chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in a secret ballot held at a convention centre in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) on 31 July 2015.Beijing became the first city in Olympic history to be awarded both summer and winter Games.Beijing had hosted the Summer Olympics in 2008.
• Paytm on 30 July 2015 acquired the title sponsorship rights for India’s domestic and international cricket matches at home from the BCCI for a period of four years  with a bid price of Rs 203.28 crore.
• Kotak Bharat:Mobile banking app launched by KMB(Kotak Mahindra Bank) that is primarily targetted to benefit customers in the under-banked and un-banked regions.
• Volkswagen (Germany) replaced Japanese auto giant Toyota to emerge as the world’s largest-selling vehicle maker in the first half of 2015.
• Tamil Nadu government instituted youth award in name of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.Tamil Nadu government also announced that Dr Kalam’s birthday on October 15th would be celebrated as the Youth Revival Day.
• Sri Lankan government decided to renovate temples destroyed in Nepal quake.

• India and Bangladesh  started the process of swapping border enclaves to settle the stateless people.In this historic event, the two countries transferred 162 enclaves.There were 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in India which were exchanged according to Land Boundary Agreement of 1974.
• Union Govt. to infuse Rs. 70,000 crore into PSBs(public sector banks) over a period of four years as announced by the Finance Ministry.
• Egypt and Saudi Arabia recently proposed to work together to create a joint Arab military force with the objective of ensuring stability in the region

• Kochi naval harbour  (Kerala) became the first in the country to get the Integrated Underwater Harbour Defence and Surveillance System (IUHDSS), an automated system capable of detecting, identifying, tracking and generating warning for surface and underwater threats

• South Sudan became the latest and the 206th member of theOlympic family after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved its inclusion.

• Union Govt. and the Naga rebels led by the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-IM (NSCN-IM) signed a path-breaking peace treaty.The treaty was signed by Thuingaleng Muivah, General Secretary of the NSCN-IM in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The treaty is expected to bring under control the decades-old insurgency problem in the North-East.
• Union Govt. stepped back from the controversy surrounding the draft Indian Financial Code (IFC).It seeks to dilute the RBI’s powers to regulate the foreign exchange and government bond markets and set monetary policy.
• India’s oldest mutual fund house – UTI Mutual Fund recently achieved a major milestone.Its asset base crossed the one lakh crore rupees mark recently.

• As Rupee’s value slid to almost 23-month low RBI intervened by selling US dollars through PSU banks.Asian countries witnessed decline after China’s central bank allowed the Yuan to drop .
• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) fully commissioned and started commercial production of its indigenous titanium sponge plant at Chavara (Kerala). With the commissioning of this plant, India has become the seventh country in the world producing titanium sponge commercially. Titanium sponge is used primarily for space and defence applications.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  paid a dividend of nearly Rs. 66,000 crore to the government. This was the highest ever dividend paid by the RBI in its 80-year history.
• Union Government on 14 August 2015 announced appointment of two executives from the private sector to head public sector banks (PSU banks).Two executives appointed are PS Jayakumar (Bank of Baroda) and Rakesh Sharma (Canara Bank).
• As part of the new Bancassurance guidelines, the IRDA allowed banks to tie up with a maximum of nine insurers from three segments- life, non–life and standalone health insurers.
• Founder and Chairman of Hero Cycles ,Om Prakash Munjal (O.P. Munjal) passed away on 13 August 2015,
• Senior advocate Arun P Sathe, the elder brother of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, was recently appointed on the Board of market regulator SEBI. Eyebrows were raised due to political nature of this appointment.

• Kerala Government signed MoU with Adani Group for development of Vizhinjam Port.Vizhinjam seaport project is the Kerala government ambitious project which was initiated 25 years ago in 1991 to build a deepest and natural draft port near Kovalam beach in Thiruvananthapuram.
• 28-year old Anirban Lahiri scaled a new high for Indian golf by becoming the first from the country to finish inside the top-five of a Major as he ended the prestigious PGA Championships at Wisconsin (USA) at fifth place. His tied at fifth place .

• Ranil Wickremesinghe's UNP(United National Party) has emerged as the single largest party with 106 seats in the 225-member legislature of srilankan parliamentary.Rajapaksa, who was president of Sri Lanka for over nine years till January this year, was the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA)’s prime ministerial candidate for the election.
• Kerala Government inaugurated a 12 MW solar power project at Cochin International Airport.With this project, Cochin airport became the first airport in India to run on solar power.

• Privately owned Bandhan Bank had recently received its universal banking licence a year after getting a provisional licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in April last year along with IDFC.Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated the bank at a ceremony held at Kolkata’s Science City Auditorium. Bandhan Bank started its operations with a bang with 501 branches spread across 22 states in the country.

• The birth centenary celebration of Rani Gaidinliu was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 August 2015. On this occasion a commemorative coin was released to recall Rani’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle. Rani Gaidinliu (1915-1993) was a prominent political leader of Nagaland who led a famous revolt against the British.

• Madhya Pradesh’s Energy Minister Rajendra Shukla announced that the world’s largest solar power station of 750 Mega Watts (MW) capacity will be established in state’s Rewa district.
• Golfer Aditi Ashok became first Indian to win the Ladies British Amateur Golf championship 17-year-old Aditi is not only the first Indian to take the title, but also the youngest-ever winner of the tournament.
• Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara retired from International Cricket .He played his last match against India as part of three match test series held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

• Union Government launched 'Sehat' to provide healthcare facilities in rural areas.Under the initiative people will be able to consult doctors through video link and also order generic drugs.
• AP Government and Tata Trust signed MoU to develop villages of Vijayawada parliamentary constituency.This is the first of its kind initiative taken up by the Tata Trust for developing all villages in a single parliamentary constituency.
• Indian Army inaugurated Jaisalmer War Museum and Laungewala War Memorial.To commemorate Battle of Laungewala, a War Memorial was constructed and inaugurated at the very site where the Pakistani offensive was blunted.
• Rajasthan Government approved Arogya Rajasthan campaign.During this three-month campaign, health data of residents will be collected and compiled. The residents would be issued health cards based on spot diagnoses.

• – Hindus constitute 79.8% (96.63 crore) of the population

• – The proportion of Hindu population to total population declined by 0.7 percentage point (PP)
• – The proportion of Muslim population to total population increased by 0.8 PP
• – The share of Hindus in the population has slipped below 80% for the first time
• – Muslims are the only community to register a growth in their share of the population
• – The growth rate of Muslims is the highest at 24.6%. Hindus follow with a 16.8 per cent growth rate; Christians come next with 15.5 per cent. The growth rates of Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains are less than 10 per cent.
• – However, the rate of increase for Muslim community has reduced from the previous decade, when the Muslim share in the population had increased by 1.73%
• – Christians are the only community (among major religions) in India that has more women members than men.

• Union Govt. announced the list of 98 cities and towns selected under Smart Cities Mission. Uttar Pradesh has been allocated highest number of 13 cities in this coveted list. Tamil Nadu has been allocated 12 cities, followed by 10 from Maharashtra and 7 from Madhya Pradesh. Centre has earmarked Rs. 48,000 crore for development of 100 smart cities
• India Energy Security Scenarios (IESS) 2047 :-name of the interactive energy scenario building tool that was launched by the NITI Aayog that aims to explore a range of potential future energy scenarios for India.It explores India’s possible energy scenarios across energy supply sectors such as solar, wind, bio fuels, oil, gas, coal and nuclear and energy demand sectors such as transport, industry, agriculture, cooking and lighting appliances.
• ICICI Bank launched country’s first-ever mortgage guarantee-backed home loan named “Extraa Home Loan". This home loan product allows consumers to increase borrowing by 5-20% and the tenure up to 67 years of age. Typically, banks do not allow home loan tenures beyond 60 years of age.
