  • The UN General Assembly gave its overwhelming approval to a Palestinian resolution which permits the flag of Palestine to fly at the UN Headquarters in New York. There were 119 votes in favour out of 193 UN members while the United States and Israel were among eight countries that voted against the Palestinian-drafted resolution. Palestine described this as a major step toward full UN membership.
  • 12th World Hindi Conference, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 September 2015. The conference primarily focuses on exploring the possibilities of expanding the influence of Hindi across the world. The main feature of this conference is that with it the WHC has returned to India after an interval of 32 years.Bhopal(M.P) hosted this event.
  • Union Cabinet approved the constitution of 21st edition of Law Commission. The Law Commission is a non-statutory body constituted by the government from time to time primarily for reviewing the effectiveness and relevance of present laws. It was originally constituted in 1955 and is re-constituted every three years.
  • Virat Kohli became a co-owner of UAE Royals, which is one of the five franchisee teams of the Mahesh Bhupathi promoted Indian Premier Tennis League( IPTL).
  • People's Action Party (PAP) won Singapore general election.PAP was led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the election.
  • US open winners: women’s singles-Flavia Pennetta(Italy) defeated Roberta Vinci(Italy),thus became the oldest first-time Grand Slam women’s champion in the Open era.In mixed doubles Leander Paes (India) and Martina Hingis (Switzerland) defeated American duo Sam Querrey and Bethanie Mattek.Mens singles- Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland. Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis won Women's Doubles title.
  • World welterweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather  Jr. (US) ended his illustrious boxing career on 12 September 2015 with a win over Andre Berto to claim the 49th and final win of his career. He thus ended 49-0 to match the record of heavyweight boxing legend Rocky Marciano.
  • Malcolm Turnbull, a former Liberal Party leader and Communications Minister, became Australia’s fourth Prime Minister in just over two years after Tony Abbott lost a leadership ballot by members of his party. 
  • AUSINDEX-15 is the name given to the first bilateral naval exercise between India and Australia being conducted off the east coast of India from 12 September to 19 September 2015. 
  • The 6th Indo-Maldives joint Military Training Exercise, which concluded on 13 September 2015, was held at Thiruvananthapuram.
  • India Rapid Reaction Cell (IRRC) – the first-ever country special cell at Pentagon was established to speed up United States’ defence ties with India and accelerate the process of co-development and co-production of hi-tech military equipment in the country.
  • The registration certificate of Sahara India Financial Corporation Limited (SIFCL) to act as a non-banking financial company (NBFC) was cancelled effective 3 September 2015 under the RBI Act.
  • The World Bank on 14 September 2015 released the first ever ranking of States on the “Ease of Doing Business” in India. The rating assessed states over a six-month period from January to June 2015 on the issue of implementation of “ease of doing business” policy. Gujarat topped the list. Followed by Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
  • Tamil Nadu state govt. on 16 September 2015 announced making it mandatory for all high rise buildings in the state to have solar power generation facility.
  • “Shauryanjali”- name of the exhibition that was started on 15 September 2015 at the India Gate lawns in New Delhi to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Indo-Pak War of 1965. “Shauryanjali” has recreated the battle scene in various sectors beginning from Rann of Kutch to the ceasefire and Tashkent Summit.
  • Indian author Sunjeev Sahota is among the six writers short-listed for the prestigious Man Booker Prize 2015. Sunjeev Sahota was short-listed for his book “The Year of the Runaways”, which centers around the lives of three Indian men, one a Dalit and a woman, all migrants from India.
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 16 September 2015 accorded “in-principal” approval for 10 small finance banks. 1) Au Financiers, 2) Capital Local Area Bank, 3) Disha Microfin, 4) Equitas Holdings, 5) ESAF Microfinance, 6) Janalakshmi Financial Services, 7) RGVN (North East) Microfinance, 8) Suryoday Micro Finance, 9) Ujjivan Financial Services and 10) Utkarsh Micro Finance.
  • Nepal’s parliament approved country‟s new constitution on 16 September 2015.
  • Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang Province is chosen for hosting 2022 Asian Games.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ambitious Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) on the occasion of his visit to Varanasi. Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) is one of the flagship schemes of the Ministry of Power and will be at the core attempt to ensure 24×7 power for all.
  • Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY)-New scheme for welfare of people affected by mining related operations.
  • India ranked at 81st place out of 141 countries in Global Innovation Index (GII) 2015. Globally, Switzerland, followed by the United Kingdom, Sweden, Netherlands and the US are ranked as the most innovative countries in the world.
  • Godavari, Krishna Rivers formally linked at Ibrahimpatnam Ferry village in Andhra Pradesh.The two rivers were linked under the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme on Godavari River at Pattisam village in West Godavari district.
  • Two Years Eight Months and Twenty Eight Nights written by Salman Rushdie released. The book can be easily called as an update to Rushdie’s ancient eastern classic, A Thousand and One Nights and the story revolves around the great Spanish-Muslim philosopher Ibn Rushd.
  • India, US created Joint Challenge Coin to mark partnership.One side of the coin reads Forward Together We Go and Chale Chale Saath Saath in Hindi, which is the vision statement of US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Hungary declared emergency in areas near Serbian border to check Migrant crisis. The declaration of emergency is part of the refugee crisis which the European Union (EU) nations has been facing from Africa especially Syria.
  • Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina won the United Nations Champions of the Earth Award 2015.Sheikh Hasina has demonstrated leadership in making climate change an issue of national priority and advocating for an ambitious global response.
  • Union Cabinet approved Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission for overall development of rural areas.The Mission approved with an outlay of 5142.08 crore rupees aims to create 300 Rurban growth clusters over the next 3 years, across the country.
  • 16 September 2015:21st International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer observed across the world.The theme and the slogan for the year 2015 are 30 Years of Healing the Ozone Together and Ozone: All there is between you and UV respectively.
  • 15th September:International Day of Democracy observed with the theme Space for Civil Society.It was created by the UN General Assembly through a resolution in 2007 to strengthen national programmes devoted to the promotion and consolidation of democracy.
  • U.N general assembly UNGA adopted Document on Advancing Security Council Reforms.The proposal which was adopted for the first time in 23 years has been welcomed by India and G4 group comprising of Brazil, Germany, Japan and India and L.69 Group of Developing Countries.
  • Government to provide additional 50 days work to farmers under MGNREGA in drought-hit areas.The additional days will be provided to bring relief to farmers in view of deficit monsoon in various parts of the country.
  • DMRC to execute 6769 crore rupees worth Vijayawada Metro Rail Project.
  • The state government also gave in principal approval to the DMRC for the execution of the Vishakhapatnam Metro Rail Project.
  • Indian Railways partnered with Google to provide free Wi-Fi services under Project Nilgiri.Under this initiative, free Wi-Fi services will be provided to passengers in 400 railway stations across the country.
  • Union Government approved the purchase of 10 Heron TP drones from Israel.This 400 million US dollars proposal for buying armed missile-armed drones from Israel will enhance India's cross-border military strike capability.
  • Rakesh Sharma appointed as MD and CEO of Canara Bank.Prior to this appointment, Sharma was the MD and CEO of Lakshmi Vilas Bank since March 2014.
  • Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on 10 September 2015 launched the National Web Portal for promotion of National Apprenticeship Scheme for Graduates, Diploma holders and 10+2 pass-outs vocational certificate holders. The Union Ministry also released a Logo and a Slogan Sashakt Yuva, Samarth Bharat for the National Web Portal. 
  • Mumbai Dialogue: Towards a TB-free India launched.According to the World Health Organization Global TB Report 2014, 240000 Indians die of TB each year and 61000 suffer from multidrug-resistant TB.

  • National Sample Survey Office (NSSO): Literacy rate in the rural areas at 71 per cent and 86 per cent in the urban areas in year 2014.
  • The last minute of June 2015 was kept one second longer, for a process known as leap second. The leap second and leap years are added as basic ways to keep the clock in sync with the Earth and its seasons.Leap second was last observed in june 2012.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) announced its tie-up with MakeMyTrip.com with an objective to boost e-commerce and m-commerce ecosystem.
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa won the R.K Nagar by-election with a huge margin of 1.51 lakhs.
  • Union Government during June 2015 completed the construction of a memorial for a former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao at Delhi’s Ekta Sthal Memorial Complex
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 July 2015 launched the Digital India Week, as part of the Digital India initiative to give India a big push in digital technology.
  • Cuba became the first country to eliminate the transmission of HIV and syphilis from mother to baby as announced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 1 July 2015.
  • Matti Makkonen (Finland) passed away.He was known as the father of short messaging service (SMS) after developing the idea of sending messages via mobile networks.

  • Bharti Airtel became the third-largest mobile operator in the world in terms of subscribers as disclosed in the latest data published by World Cellular Information Service (WCIS). China Mobile and Vodafone Group occupied the first and second spots respectively.
  • Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on 1 July tabled a proposal in the State Assembly to lift the ban on sale and manufacture of liquor.
  • World Bank has approved an additional loan of 650 million dollars for India’s Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) Project.DFC Project aims at the faster delivery of goods between the northern and eastern parts of the country.
  • Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi approved Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) or PM’s Agriculture Irrigation Scheme. PMKSY is central scheme that aims at providing irrigation facilities to every village in the country by converging ongoing irrigation schemes implemented by various ministries.
  • Greece has become the first developed nation to default on International Monetary Fund (IMF) debt. It has defaulted on a 1.7 billion dollars payment to IMF. The deadline for debt payment was missed by Greece after Eurozone Finance Ministers refused to extend its bailout.
  • Union Cabinet has approved setting up of an Online National Agriculture Market that will provide more options to farmers for selling their produce. Decision in this regard was taken at a Union Cabinet meeting presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. For online national agriculture market, an online platform will be set up. On this platform farmers will be able to sell and buy vegetables, fruits and other produce from across the country.
  • Moving away from the tradition ,the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) remained opened on 1 July 2015 so as to facilitate settlement of public and market transactions. Normally, RBI remains closed for public transactions on every year’s 1 July due to annual closing of accounts on this day. RBI’s accounting year is from July to June.

  • Indian economy crossed $2-trillion mark during 2014 as disclosed in the data released by the World Bank in Washington on 2 July .
  • Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh has been named as the winner of the 2015 World Food Prize. He is founder and chairman of Bangladesh-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) BRAC (originally known as Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) which is world’s largest NGO. Since its formation, BRAC is being credited for helping more than 150 million people out of poverty.

  • Chile created history by winning the Copa America tournament for 2015 on 4 July 2015. The host team defeated the much-fancied Argentina by 4-1 on penalties to win the prestigious tournament. This was the first Copa America title for Chile. Peru defeated Paraguay 2-0 in the play-off match to finish the tournament at third place.
  • Union Government has launched mobile App to know gram panchayats assets. It was launched by Union Rural Development and Minister Ch Birender Singh. It was launched on the occasion of Digital India Week in New Delhi.
  • Nationwide mobile number portability (MNP) has become operational from 3 July 2015. It became operational after major private mobile operators like Vodafone, RCom, Airtel, Uninor and Idea Cellular along with state-run BSNL and MTNL issued statements to launch MNP.
  • Mahindra Defence Systems Limited, a subsidiary of Mahindra Group and Airbus Helicopter have inked pact to form a joint venture (JV) company to produce helicopters in India. In this regard, both entities have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a joint venture.
  • Ira Singhal topped the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination to select IAS and IPS officers, the results for which were declared on 4 July 2015.
  • State run telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched pre-paid card linked mobile wallet service ‘Speed Pay’. It was launched by Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi.

  • Greek voters voted overwhelmingly to reject the terms of a bailout by European entities in a referendum held on 5 July 2015. Much-awaited referendum was held to decide whether or not Greece was to accept the bailout conditions in the country’s govt.
  • Corporation Bank on 4 July 2015 became the first in the country to launch the MUDRA Card, under the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) scheme. The card facilitates the withdrawal and use of the working capital finance by micro entrepreneurs.
  • The United States won FIFA Women’s Football World Cup 2015 on 5 July 2015 The final was played between the U.S. and Japan on 5 July 2015 at BC Place, Vancouver.

  • Kruti Tiwari, an IIT-JEE topper from Indore, was nominated as the brand ambassador of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project Digital India.
  • Software giant Microsoft has agreed to develop ‘digital villages’ and a ‘smart MIDC’ (industrial colony) in Maharashtra under state’s flagship ‘Make In Maharashtra’ initiative.
  • Fiji broke the record for the biggest win in international football with a 38-0 victory on 5 July 2015 in their match against Micronesia in Pacific Games 2015.

  • In an important ruling, the Supreme Court on 6 July 2015 ruled that an unwed mother can be the legal guardian of a child without the consent of the father. The current law requires that a notice has to be sent to the child’s father for his consent when there is a petition for guardianship.
  • World Champions Australia defeated Belgium by 1-0 in the finals of the Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Final tournament. Thus Australia claimed gold medal while hosts Belgium got the silver medal in the tournament. HWL Semi-final was hosted at the KHC Dragons Stadium in Antwerp (Belgium). The tournament’s final will be played in Mohali (India) during December 2015.india finished Fourth in the tournament.
  • World Boxing Organization (WBO) has stripped of the Welterweight World title 2015 won by Floyd Mayweather in May 2015. Decision in this regard was taken by WBO after Mayweather failed to pay the 200,000 dollar sanctioning fee to WBO prior to the deadline of 3 July 2015.
  • India signed a historic uranium deal with Kazakhstan on 6 July 2015 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit of Kazakhstan. Under the deal, India will receive 5,000 metric tonnes uranium from Kazakhstan.

  • India and Kazakhstan launched the first exploratory drilling at Satpayev oil block owned by India’s ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) and Kazakhstan company KazMunaiGaz. It was jointly launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kazakhstan premier Karim Massimov in Astana, Kazakh capital. Satpayev oil block is an offshore field located in the Northern Caspian Sea. It has potential reserves estimated at 1.8 billion barrels crude oil and natural gas.
  • World Bank has ranked the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) as the world’s largest public works programme. It was revealed in recently released World Bank Group’s report titled ‘The State of Social Safety Nets 2015‘. Report Highlights MGNREGA (under Ministry of Rural Development) provides social security net to 182 million beneficiaries i.e. almost 15 per cent of the India’s population.
  • Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai became the first in the world to have manufactured 50 thousand railway coaches, It primarily manufactures railway coach for Indian Railways but also exports railway coaches to other countries.
  • Jin Liqun former Finance Minister of China was named as the first Chief of the Beijing-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which is being established as an alternative financial entity to the U.S. and Europe-dominated banking institutions.
  • Indian captain Mithali Raj made history on 6 July 2015 by becoming the first Indian and second in women’s ODI history to complete 5000 runs.
  • Hyderabad-based Turbo Megha Airways on 7 July 2015 became the newest aviation company to receive flying licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulator.It will operate under brand name Trujet.

  • Indian Railways launched a mobile ticketing application for unreserved tickets for commuters in Western Railway. It was launched by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. This mobile ticketing service will cover 35 stations between the 123 km long Churchgate -Dhauroad and facilitate a hassle free travel for lakhs of daily passengers in Mumbai.
  • eMudhra Limited, a leading certifying firm in the country for digital signatures launched first of its kind eSign services in the country as part of the Digital India Vision. eSign is an online electronic signature service legally valid and secure under the Information Technology Act, 2000. It will facilitate an Aadhaar holder to digitally sign a document within seconds.
  • Vadodara district of Gujarat and China’s Xinjinag province has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of twin cities.
  • Notable Urdu poet, critic and orator Bashar Navaaz passed away in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He was 80 years old. He was known as an Indo Pak shayar as his gazals are popular in India as well as Pakistan. 
  • India and United States have signed inter-governmental agreement to implement the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). It was signed by Revenue Secretary Shaktikanta Das and US Ambassador to India Richard Verma in New Delhi. The agreement will promote transparency on tax matters and curb offshore tax evasion by exchange of information between the two countries.
  • Sriram Kalyanaraman was appointed as Managing Director and CEO of National Housing Bank (NHB). NHB is the regulator of India’s housing finance sector. Sriram Kalyanaraman became the first person from the private sector to head a public sector financial institution when he was appointed MD and CEO of NHB.At present, Kalyanaraman is Director-Business Development, Equifax Credit Information Services.

  • Indigenously developed supersonic surface-to-air Akash Missile has been inducted in Indian Air Force (IAF). The Akash missile was inducted by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at a function held at Maharajpur Airbase in Gwalior after he handed over the symbolic key of Akash defence system (ADS) to Air chief Marshal Arup Raha.
  • Uttarakhand became first Indian state to install a system to detect earthquakes and disseminate warnings. The first system has been installed in its capital Dehradun which will issue warnings 1-40 seconds before earthquakes of magnitude 5 or more occur.
  • The 2-day 7th BRICS Summit was concluded on 9 July 2015 at Ufa (Russia). The Summit comprised the heads of state of 5 BRICS countries – Dilma Rousseff (Brazil), Vladimir Putin (Russia), Narendra Modi (India), Xi Jinping (China) and Jacob Juma (South Africa).
  • Ashok K. Lahiri, a former Chief Economic Advisor (CEA), was named as the first Chairman of Bandhan Bank. Chandra Sekhar Ghosh will be the MD and CEO of the bank. The bank will start its operations from 23 August 2015.
  • Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan: launched by the former President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam on 9 July 2015 .Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan(RAA) primarily seeks to develop a natural sense of passion towards learning of Science and Maths in school students of the country. Under this initiative, government schools will be mentored by Institutes like IITs/ IIMs/ IISERs and other Central Universities.
  • National Floor Level Minimum Wage/ minimum daily wage for workers (NFLMW) raised by Rs.23 to reach Rs. 160 per day.
  • In an important step, Union Government on 8 July 2015 allowed seven state-owned entities(National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Indian Railways Finance Corporation (IRFC), Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), NTPC, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC)) to raise Rs. 40,000 crore in the current fiscal through tax-free bonds.

  • India and Pakistan were given membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on 10 July 2015. Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is political, economic and military organisation that was founded in 2001 by 6 countries in Shanghai – China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
  • ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C-28 has successfully put five satellites of United Kingdom into designated orbits. They were successfully put designated into orbit after its lift off from first launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikotta, Andhra Pradesh With the overall mass of five satellites is about 1,440kg, this launch became the heaviest commercial mission ever undertaken by ISRO.
  • Indian-origin Sunita Williams is among four veteran astronauts chosen by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to fly the first commercial space vehicles. Other three astronauts are Robert Behnken,Eric Boeand  Douglas Hurley.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 9 July 2015 allowed mass transit system (MTS) operators like Mumbai Metro, Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, etc. to issue pre-paid cards to their customer. The customers can easily transfer money to these cards that can be swiped on machines instead of standing in long queues to purchase travel tickets.
  • State-run National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has set a target of providing 30,000 crore rupees as credit to farmers for irrigational purpose. It was announced by Bank’s Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Harsh Kumar Bhanwala in Mumbai on the occasion of 34th Foundation Day of NABARD. This credit will be provided over the next three years i.e. till 2018 and for this NABARD already has sanctioned 1,000 crore rupees.
  • In Indian Super League (ISL) Players Auction Indian captain Sunil Chhetri bagged the highest bid, at Rs. 1.20 crore at the auctions. He was bought by Mumbai City FC.

  • Sania Mirza of India created history on 11 July 2015 when she won the Wimbledon women’s doubles title with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis to become the first female player from the country to win a women’s doubles Grand Slam trophy.
  • Wimbledon 2015 winners: Men’s Singles Title: Defending Champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia won the 2015 Men’s Singles Wimbledon Title.   • History was made on 14 July 2015 as NASA spacecraft ‘New Horizons’ made a flyby of the dwarf planet Pluto some 4.8 billion kilometers from Earth.It was launched from Cape Canaveral on 19 January 2006. During April it sent the first-ever colour image of Pluto and its largest moon Charon.
  • Iran and P5+1 countries signed a comprehensive deal on Iran’s nuclear programme. According to this deal Tehran that would allow U.N. inspectors to press for visits to Iranian military sites as part of their monitoring duties of nuclear programme. In return Iran will get relief from economic sanctions that have been imposed for decades.(P5+1 group : five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, plus Germany).
  • Union Government has launched GPS-Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) system, for aviation navigation. It was launched by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in New Delhi. GAGAN is a joint venture by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Airports Authority of India (AAI). It will provide augmentation service for GPS over the India, Bay of Bengal, South-east Asia and Middle East along with expansion up to Africa.

  • Eminent music composer Manayangath Subramanian Viswanathan passed away in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was 87. The veteran musician had composed music for over a thousand films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and was fondly called as the King of Light Music (Mellisai Mannar in Tamil).
  • Two major Indian Premier League teams Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals were suspended from IPL for two years. Decision in this regard was taken by a Supreme Court-appointed three-member committee headed by former Chief Justice of India R M Lodha. Both of the teams were banned in regards to betting activities of their key officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra during the 6th edition of i.e. 2013 season of IPL.
  • Scientists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have discovered a new class of exotic subatomic particles called the Pentaquarks. The discovery was made by the scientist’s after watching the decaying of a subatomic type particle known as the Lambda B baryon.
  • World’s largest religious congregation Sinhastha Kumbh Mela has begun at Trimbakeshwar, Nashik district of Maharashtra.It is being held after every 12 years on Godavari River.

  • The Union Cabinet on 16 July 2015 gave its approval for redevelopment of 400 railway stations in the country under ‘As is where is’ Model. Under this agreement, Sri Lankan bank can draw up to 1.1 billion dollars for a maximum period of 6 months.   • The official nationality preference survey in recently swapped 162 enclaves on India- Bangladesh border under the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) has ended. The survey was conducted by the Enclaves Exchange Co-ordination Committee (EECC) of both countries for ascertaining the nationality preference of over 50,000 enclave-residents. On Bangladesh’s side it is found that 1,027 out of around 37,369 had opted for Indian nationality from the recently swapped 111 Indian enclaves now located in Bangladesh. In case of India’s side, over 14,000 residents in 51 Bangladeshi enclaves transferred to India have opted to relocate to Bangladesh.

  • The Finance Ministry on 31 May 2015 released new simplified income tax return forms for different classes of tax payers. The new forms – ITR 2 and ITR2A, have only three pages as compared to the earlier controversial forms that comprised of 14 pages.
  • A new plant to produce the paper for high-denomination currency notes domestically was inaugurated by the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on 30 May 2015 at Hoshangabad (Madhya Pradesh).  Currently, currency notes of larger denominations (such as Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000) are printed on imported paper though ink used is mostly produced within the country.
  •  The United States on 29 May 2015 officially removed Cuba from its list of countries that sponsor terrorism. Since 1982  , communist  Cuba  was  placed on the terror list in 1982 when the U.S. government accused the Fidel Castro regime of sponsoring communist groups in Latin America and Africa.

This resignation was in the face of a U.S.-led corruption investigation that has plunged FIFA into the worst crisis in its history. Blatter was heading FIFA since  1988 .
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) on 2 June 2015 cut its base lending rate by 15 basis points hours after the RBI had reduced the Repo Rate by 25 basis points. New lending rate of SBI after this cut is  9.7%
  • In one of the worst attacks on the Indian Army in two decades, insurgents on 4 June 2015 ambushed a military convoy in Chandel (Manipur) killing at least 20 army personnel and injuring 11 others. The incident is being described as the worst casualties the Army has suffered since the Kargil War of 1999. Recently formed militant group United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia, of which NSCN(K) is a part, claimed responsibility for the incident .
  •  India and five nations on 3 June 2015 signed an agreement to join 60 countries, including Switzerland, to exchange financial information automatically from 2017. Name of this agreement that would pave way to have a control on black money overseas is  Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement (MCAA) .

  • Delhi Metro received India’s first driver-less metro train on 4 June 2015 from South Korea. The new generation train, which is a part of a 20-set consignment, will be suitable to eventually run on UTO (unattended train operation) mode. These trains are being procured through Hyundai Rotem, which manufactures them at its facility in Korea. Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) is manufacturing these trains in India.

  • India and Bangladesh on 6 June 2015 ratified the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) to settle the land boundary dispute between the two countries through exchange of territories. This ratification thus sealed an agreement signed by the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her Bangladeshi counterpart Mujib-ur-Rehman in 1974 .Bangladesh and India share a 4,096-km international border, the fifth-longest land border in the world
  •  In a major boost to connectivity between India and Bangladesh, two bus services were flagged off on 6 June 2015 that will link West Bengal to three North Eastern states of India – Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya  via Bangladeshi capital Dhaka. The bus services were inaugurated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Dhaka.
  • Union Govt. on 5 June 2015 formed an eight-member committee to review the Companies Act, 2013, and suggest necessary changes. Anjuly Chib Duggal, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA)  head this committee.
  • The Quebec Superior Court  of Canada recently ordered three tobacco companies to pay fines worth around $12 billion for damages. Court gave this landmark decision in a case file by a group of smokers from Quebec who said the firms failed to warn them of health risks associated with smoking. The three firms involved in this case are Imperial Tobacco, Rothmans Benson & Hedges and JTI-MacDonald .
  • Serena Williams (US) defeated – Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic) to clinch  her 20th Grand Slam title and third French Open women’s singles title at Roland Garros on 6 June 2015.
  • The 2-day Summit of G7 countries started on 7 June 2015. This summit is being held at Schloss Elmau (Germany) .G7 is the group of seven major advanced economies of the world and includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
  • Stanislas Wawrinka (Switzerland) won the men’s singles title of French Open 2015 by defeating t Novak Djokovic (Serbia) in the finals on 7 June.

  • A tropical storm in the Arabian Sea was declared as a severe cyclonic storm on 8 June 2015.Name given to this storm is Ashobaa which was expected to affect Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra coasts .
  • R.C. Tayal was appointed as new Director General (DG) of National Security Guard (NSG) on 7 June 2015. He is a 1980-batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS).He was the Special Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) till now. He replaced J.N. Choudhury who retired as NSG DG on 31 May 2015 .
  • India finished  at third place in the 21st Asian Athletics Championships that concluded in Wuhan (China) on 7 June 2015.India secured a medal haul of 4 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze in the championships to finish third behind China (15, 13, 13) and Qatar (7, 2, 1). Japan (4, 3, 11) and Bahrain (3, 3, 2) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
  • A first of its kind operation of operation was carried out by the Indian Army on 9 June 2015 when it conducted an anti-terrorist operation on a foreign soil for the first time. This bold operation was carried out in Myanmar with strategic support from that country. Indian Army on 9 June 2015 struck terrorist camps inside Myanmar and killed nearly 20 North-Eastern insurgents. The attack was in response to the deadly ambush in Manipur that killed 18 soldiers on 4 June 2015 in Chandel district.

It seeks to overturn a Supreme Court 2014 ruling said the case has to be initiated where the cheque-issuing branch was located

This is due to the fact that the Zimbabwean dollar has become almost worthless.

  • The Union Govt. on 13 June 2015 launched an Indian insurance pool to the tune of Rs. 1,500 crore which is mandatory under the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act (CLND). This insurance pool was launched to address the concerns of the clauses in the CLND Act, which give the operator the Right to Recourse and allow it to sue the suppliers in case of any accident.General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC ) is the fund operator of this Rs. 1,500 crore Indian insurance pool and it includes 11 other non-life insurers as associates of the pool.

  • Three urban missions to be launched to set Smart Cities Mission. AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation), Housing for All (Urban) and Smart Cities Mission (SCM).
  • Under Smart Cities Mission, AMRUT, basic infrastructure like providing tap water and sewer connections to every urban household, solid waste management, provision of roads and public transport. Promotion of urban reforms to improve urban governance will also be supported. This Mission seeks to enable urban local bodies meet service level benchmarks in respect of various services. 500 cities with a population of above one lakh each would be included in AMRUT.

  • OneWeb: Bharati Airtel joined one Web by acquiring minority stake in it.Bharti Enterprises buys stake in satellite internet startup OneWeb, along with Richard Virgin Group and Sunil Mittal would use the funds to acquire 65 commercial rockets to launch satellite-borne Internet services to extend the reach of mobile operators to customers in remote corners of the world. Other investors include Airbus Group, Qualcomm, Coca-Cola Co, Mexico’s Grupo Salinas, Hughes Network Systems, a unit of EchoStar and Intelsat.

  • SpaceX Falcon 9 - unmanned rocket bound for the International Space Station (ISS) that exploded just after its lift-off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on 28 June 2015. SpaceX Falcon 9 was the 19th Falcon 9 rocket of privately-owned SpaceX company.

  • Himachal Pradesh High Court  passed a landmark judgment that women in tribal areas would also inherit property in accordance with the Hindu Succession Act 1956.
  • June29. First phase of Chennai Metro service was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa after she flagged off inaugural train. The first phase of Metro service covers the 10-km overhead (elevated) stretch. It connects Alandur in south Chennai to Koyabedu in the north.
  • Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwni Ponappa won the women’s doubles title of the Canada Open Badminton tournament. In the finals match played at Calgary, Canada they defeated Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek in straight games of 21-19, 21-16. It is their first title of this season.
  • India is fourth largest carbon emitter in the world in terms of per capita emission accounting for 6.6 % of global emissions for the year 2012.It was revealed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) in its latest analyses of the country-wise carbon emissions of climate-damaging greenhouse gases (GHGs). According to the analysis figures of WRI, Top 10 emitters are: China (25.26%), US (14.4%), European Union (10.16%), India (6.69%), Russia (5.36%), Japan (3.11%), Brazil (2.34%), Indonesia (1.76%), Mexico (1.67%) and Iran (1.65%).
  • Indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) prototype has been successfully cleared hot weather trials at Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The testing involved temperature survey of engine bay and hydraulic system apart from handling qualities, assessment of performance and loads at different all up weights etc. With this successful test it will pave way for the Initial Operational Clearance (IOC), which is expected  to receive it by the end 2015 and is likely to enter production from 2017-18. Earlier in March 2015, LCH had successfully cleared cold weather trials at Leh at a temperature of -180 C and at an altitude of 4.1 km.
